I
did not know creating a homepage would be that difficult.
We not only had to do interviews but also had to create the
homepage. It was really a lot of work.
First, we did research to collect necessary information, and
then we started our interviews. After that we started our
big task. Each of us was allotted to do certain task, and
I was assigned to do picture modification, which, unfortunately
was my weakest. But, after completing the Project, I realized
that I have accumulated a lot of knowledge on Taiwanese Opera,
and know a lot more computering than my classmates do.

The
competition not only enables me to get in touch with people
who are related to Ming Hwa Yuan, but also understand the
difficulty of creating a homepage. To create a homepage, we
went to many places to interview people and organized all
the data that we gathered. We had interviewed Mayor Ma of
Taipei City, Dr. Liao, Head of the Department of Culture Affairs,
and many other personalities. Though it was agonizing to come
up with appropriate questions for those interviews, but being
so close to these celebrities was really exciting. The most
difficult part of the whole project was to organize the data,
but we overcame it somehow. The experience of participating
in the project makes me feel like Mig-HwaYuan, transforming
from insignificant to a world-renowned troupe.

Taking
part in the competition has a great impact on me. I now have
very clear idea of the origin of the Taiwanese Opera and how
people viewed it. I used to be a total stranger to Taiwanese
Opera, after the interviews, I came to realize the significance
of its role in the life of the generations before us
Once, through the arrangement of our school, we went to Taipei
City Hall to have an
interview with Mayor Ma. I was very excited and nervous, fearing
of making mistakes. When Mayor appeared for us to start our
interview, I was all sweating with worries. Mayor Ma first
complimented Ming-Hwa Yuan for their consistence in creativity
and originality, and then he graced us with singing a tune
of Taiwanese Opera. It was truly a most memorable experience.

Before
joining the team, I used to think Taiwanese Opera was very
boring. After our interviews with the Mayor, the scholars,
I came to appreciate it as an interesting traditional opera,
because it embodies history, music and many amazing elements.
Once, I went to Chang,Yu-Cheng’s to watch a Taiwanese Opera
VCD, and I was intrigued by their vivacity.
I think the creativity of Ming-Hwa Yuan has broken away from
traditional boundary. Though there are some rebukes, I do
hope they will persist to creating new forms of Taiwanese
Opera.

For
this competition, our teachers took us to many places to do
interviews. We had interviewed Mayor Ma, we also interviewed
Professor Yang and many others, and we always came back with
lots of information to sort through. Sometimes, when there
was disagreement on certain interviews, we had to show the
video we filmed to clarify it.
I think the most difficult part of the whole project was to
put the history of Taiwanese Opera in order. Some documents
were too difficult for us; our teachers would have to simplify
them for us to type in. After that, the teachers had to proofread
the whole thing to avoid mistakes.
I am very grateful for the help and support of our teachers
and our parents.

With
the encouragement of Ms. Huang, I, Li-Der, Chi-Wei, Chen Wei,
Tin-Ray, Fong-Yi and Li-Chuan plunged into the Cyber competition.
As this is an extracurricular activity, my school life became
very busy and colorful.
At first, we wasted a lot of time arguing vainly about the
theme and the editing of the homepage; finally, with the guidance
of Ms. Huang and Mr. Lee, it was settled. Then, we started
contacting for interviews and pictures. We had interviews
with the members of Ming-Hwa Yuan and Mayor Ma, etc. and we
also went to the performance of Ming Hwa Yuan in Taipei County.
This Project has helped me to learn a lot about Taiwanese
Opera, and the experience would stay a fond memory in my mind.

Ever
since I took part in the Project, there was an urge in me
to work harder. Starting from picking the theme, looking for
finance and other supports, inviting supervisors and recruiting
team members, there were so many obstacles to overcome.
Our first setback came with choosing Ming-Hwa Yuan as the
theme. Because they were too busy to coordinate with our scheduled
activities, we were forced to change our plans accordingly.
We tried to squeeze our activities into their schedule. By
going to the backstage, we observed how the actors put on
their make-up and change sets. Other times, we bought tickets
to sit in the audience to watch the fantastic stage effects
created by modern technology. Or, sometimes we watched films
to catch the music and dialogues. I really want to thank Ms.
Huang and Mr. Lee for helping us go through all these havoc
and instructing us on how to filter through all the data.Doing
the interview was a much harder task for me than dealing with
computer. First, I had to come up with a proper question,
and then I had to remember to keep cool. It was such a demanding
job. It was especially so when we were interviewing Mayor
Ma. There were so many reporters and cameras, that I was so
transfixed that I almost stuttered.It
takes great courage to put a group of kids to work together,
as every one has his own idea and way of doing things, but
our teachers were never too frustrated to give up on us. I
not only learnt computer skills, but also patience, cooperation
and respect.
There is one more person I would like to express my thanks,
Yu-Cheng’s dad, who supported us financially and personally
so we could complete the Project without delay.
Do I wish to win the competition? Of course! But my mother
told me that the process is more precious than the result.
Well, I guess I will have to count on the expertise of the
reverent judges.
