The Female Lead of the Ming Hwa Yuan-Ms. Jeng Ya-shen

In recent years, Jeng Ya-shen has been the female lead in many large dramas of the Ming Hwa Yuan. We can see her graceful aesthetic movements throughout the drama. On the grand stage of the National Theater, she plays four different characters in the Ming Hwa Yuan’s annual large drama, Han Xiang Zi. It is really a great challenge for a performer to play four roles at a time with totally different types of makeup, personalities and costumes. However, she made it! This successful performance evinces Ms. Jeng’s acting skill has evolved into a higher level, while this has been her ultimate goal in the Ming Hwa Yuan.
Judging from the fact that Ms. Jeng has been the protagonist(yi shou dan) in large dramas produced by the Ming Hwa Yuan, obviously she has won the recognition of this big family. It is a great honor, but it is also a more demanding bitter-sweet mission for her to carry on.
In her daily life, Ms. Jeng keeps doing regular training of Taiwanese Operas. In order to perform her best on the stage, she perfects herself in every aspect, including makeup and every little movement. Now Ms. Jeng can master different types of stagecraft, such as the flinging, throwing, and retrieving movement of shaking sleeves(水袖).

Married to the Best Jester of the Ming Hwa Yuan-Chen Sheng-tzai

As a mother of two children, Jeng regards her marriage with Mr. Chen Sheng-tzai, as the best bless in her life. When we were interviewing Mr. Chen, we asked him how come he could make such a beautiful lady to be his wife. We ask Miss Jeng the same question and the answer lies in his wisdom and talent. Jeng started to do part-time job for the Ming Hwa Yuan since she was 16 years old. In the beginning, she could only play insignificant roles or clean up the stage after the show was over. She often observed how the other actors practice and perform. At that time, Chen Sheng-tzai was quite curious that how come this young lady could always be moved by the same scenes over and over again. Chen started to grow interest in her and wanted to know more about her. Because of Chen’s talent and sincere affections for her deeply moved Jeng, she finally became Chen Sheng-tzai’s wife.
Ms. Jeng and the most celebrated male lead of the Ming Hwa Yuan, Ms. Suen Tsuei-feng, often enact lovers or couples on the stage. Therefore, Ms. Jeng(the female lead), Ms. Suen(the male lead), and Mr. Chen Sheng-tzai(the jester) constitute the iron triangle of the Ming Hwa Yuan.

Looking Forward to Be More Perfect

Ms. Jeng often played the character of female servants when she started to learn Taiwanese Opera. Whenever she performed on stage, she tried hard to fathom how her facial expression should look at the moment. Mr. Chen Sheng-fu remarked that Jeng was the only one who did the exact facial expression that female servants were supposed to have. Jeng might not be the prettiest actress, but she definitely had the best attitude for performance. Chen Sheng-fu’s remark encouraged her to work even harder.
Each stage photo of Jeng clearly displays her effort in mastering different types of siao dan(a female character), including ku dan(a sorrowful female character), wu dan(a female martial artist), san ba dan(the female jester), and hua dan(a vivacious young female). Her success has been accumulated by her unremitting diligence. We believe that Ms. Jeng will do even better in the future.
