In order to elevate the level of baseball movement in Taiwan, Mr. Hsieh contributed to the competition between the Maple Leaf team and the Kansai League of Japan in 1969. He could tell the level of the two teams was not very far, so he immediately raised funds to prepare for the Little League World series in the US. Because the baseball activities were not valued by the government then, he has to manage all the expenditure for the trip to Williamsport.

The US Military Advisor Group in Taiwan and the donations from the society helped Mr. Hsieh raised enough money to take the Golden Dragons team’s players to the US.
As the Golden Dragon was still short in budget, Mr. Hsieh tried the US Military Advisor Group to see if it was possible to fly on the Military planes without success. With the help of General Chirara and the donation from the society, Mr. Hsieh was finally able to raise enough money take the Golden Dragons to the US.

The daily life of those players was managed by Mr. and Mrs. Hsieh. Even their oldest son Hsieh Nan-Qiang, who studied in the South California University, was asked to wash clothes and socks for the little players. More than that, Mr. Hsieh decided to take those kids to the Disney World no matter the outcome of the game.
Hsieh Nan-Chian even recruited some Chinese students to chip in and help taking care of the little players.

Fortunately, the Golden Dragons won the first world championship in our baseball history; the overseas Chinese were very excited about this accomplishment. Those little heroes used their bats to create the diplomatic relations for our country and made Taiwan become famous all over the world.
On the other hand, the baseball activity was not considered very important but only a game played during the Japanese colonization period. Thus, the government did not invest enough money or attention to the baseball movement. Most expenditures needed still relied on the “beggar” Mr. Hsieh, who sold baseball tickets to raise money.
