The merchandise that retailers in Taiwan sell is mainly necessities for daily use and the profit made on a single item is quite small. At present, there are various kinds of special sales and promotions in each warehouse, which makes the competition among retailers more furious.

　　Makro was the first warehouse that started its business in Taiwan and this warehouse was established by the cooperation among SHV group in Holland, Charoen Pokphand Enterprise in Thailand, and Holmsgreen Group. It was opened in 1989. Makro adopted the operating mode of bulk sales and was the first established warehouse in Taiwan. After running its business for fourteen years, Makro was closed in 2003. At present, the number of warehouses in Dawan South Section of redevelopment zone in Taipei Neihu is the largest among Taiwan.

　　The second-largest retailer in Taiwan is RT Mart and it is a spin-out of Ruentex Group, which is a “local firm.” The reason why we chose RT Mart as our research subject is that its business is good although there are many foreign competitors in Taiwan.
