The Presidential Office presented Dr. Brougham with Order of the Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon
ˇ@ˇ@On April 10th of 2002, President Chen Shui-bian presented the Order of the Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon to Dr. Doris Brougham at the presidential office. He presented the medal for her by himself in order to praise her great love and contribution to Taiwan.

ˇ@ˇ@On the website of the Presidential office noted one paragraph by the famous writer Khalil Jibran ˇ§The true generosity is not to give people what they need, but to give them what you need yourself.ˇ¨ Dr. Doris Brougham came to Hualiang in 1951, and devoted herself to Taiwan with no regrets or resentments. The ˇ§Studio Classroomˇ¨ magazine and radio teaching programs she created has significantly contributed to the promotion of Taiwanˇ¦s English education. Thus, President Chen awarded the Order of the Brilliant Star with Violet Grand Cordon, the countryˇ¦s highest honor, to theˇ¨ Mother of Taiwanˇ¦s Englishˇ¨.

ˇ@ˇ@When President Chen talked about her, he specifically pointed out that ˇ§Studio Classroomˇ¨ is not only the bible for young people learning English in Taiwan, but also a shared beautiful memory for those who ever learned English. Dr. Doris Brougham set up the radio-teaching program, Studio Classroom, in 1962. This program broadened the international vision for all Taiwan students, and elevated the English level for people of Taiwan as well. The magazine supplementing the radio program was published in 1974. The radio program and the magazine demonstrated the hard works Dr. Brougham had done for English education of Taiwan.
