Trumpet loving Dr. Brougham

¡@¡@Does Doris Brougham rings a bell to you? We would think so. She is the founder of ¡§Let¡¦s talk in English¡¨,¡¨ Studio Classroom¡¨, ¡¨Advanced¡¨, ¡§Heavenly Melody¡¨, and ¡¨Overseas Radio & Television¡¨. She has dedicated herself for Taiwan¡¦s English education for decades. It would not be overly exaggerated to call her the English Teacher of 23 million Taiwanese.

¡@¡@In the 60s, there were no systematic English teaching materials, radio programs, or TV shows available. With her enthusiasm, Ms. Brougham put brand new teaching ideas into practice under difficult situations . She combined lively topics with conversation, letting students not only memorizing words and grammars but also learning English from topics related to their daily lives. Moreover, they can learn new things through CD-ROM, Internet, or TV programs.

¡@¡@She is not just an English teacher or a magazine founder. She is actually a missionary with great dreams. Last year marked the 60th anniversary of her arrival at China. The Protestant churches held a grand concert for her to pay tribute to her and to thank her dedication to Taiwan.

¡@¡@Doris Brougham believes that there should be a purpose in life, and that everyone should make a difference for the world. When Doris was 21, she waved farewell to her dearest parents by the pier, and came to the distant Orient. She never thought she would dedicate her whole life to Chinese people, and thereby lit up a brilliant lantern for students of Taiwan to the route of internationalization.

¡@¡@Until now, she is still on the path of her dedication, which she has beeing plodding for 60 years.
