Her story moves one to tears
　　Whoever had put in time and efforts on English in Taiwan knows her—Dr. Doris Brougham. She is an American. Her Studio Classroom pioneers and leads English teaching field in Taiwan for decades. During the process of Taiwan’s industrialization and internalization, we definitely owed much to Dr. Brougham. She is the teacher of Taiwan’s 20 million people, and created numerous English talents. In fact, those who had listened to her radio programs or read her articles must have exceeded the number.
　　My two daughters are faithful audience of her. They listened to radio shows to learn English every morning. Studio Classroom made them have abundant environment to practice their English without going abroad. She is good at guiding students in a kind and humorous way as well. She loves to make jokes but having a moral mysophobia of the missionary, too. Her talks are definitely refreshing and healthy.
　　I was honored to attend the conferment of Dr. Doris Brougham Scholarship in 1997. That was the first time I had the chance to talk to her face to face. I was impressed by how the knowledge seeking young students surrounded her and how she warmly talked to them. What surprised me most was that she could even speak Taiwanese and Aboriginal language.
　　Come to think of it, she has stayed in Taiwan for more than 50 years, which is probably longer than most of us. Besides, she had lived in Hualien, Taichung, and Taipei, and have travelled all over the island, so that her understanding of Taiwan is not less than any of us. We shouldn’t treat her as a foreigner any longer. She remained unmarried for the sake of Taiwan and devoted herself to Taiwan and Taiwan’s English teaching. Her story moved people all the time. I encourage everyone to not only read her life story but to understand her love and perseverance, and the belief she pursues all her life.

　　From reading President Ma Ying-jeou’s preface for Dr. Doris Brougham we know that many families like President Ma’s family read and listened to Studio Classroom for three generations. Just like our family, we can have the same topics to talk to each other. No matter it is a mountain, an old street or a popular book, Dr. Brougham always tries to deliver the healthiest and accurate information to us.
