During the lecture, we learned that the outfit of baseball was originated from military uniform. In addition, he said there were 108 stitches on each baseball, if the ball broke; the player had to sew it by himself because it was very expensive then. In addition, Uncle Hsieh even showed us the pictures of hard baseballs in early time.
Mr. Hsieh told us that only Japanese could play baseball during the first years of Japanese colonization stage, not until 1906 can Taiwanese played baseball. Although Taiwanese were not treated equally then, people found honor and identity in baseball playing. For example, the Jiayi Agriculture and Forestry Institute won the second place for Koshien in 1931; many leading players in that team were Taiwanese.

During our second visit to Mr. Hsieh, we showed him some of our picture collections. We were very impressed by his vast knowledge when he could name all the people in the old photos at random.
Through the efforts of various devotees, baseball has grown with the age. Though it is not the national sport of the national, yet it is the fond memory of our parents and elders. We hope that baseball can continue for another 100 years.
